She studied at Slade School of Art, London between 1952 and 1956 and was selected for the Turner prize in 1989. Since her first solo exhibition in 1965, Paula Rego's work has been exhibited in some of the world's most prestigious galleries and museums: Serpentine Gallery, London, 1997; Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, 1997; Tate Gallery, Liverpool, 2007; Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon, 1999; Museu Serralves, Oporto, 2004; Museo Nacional Reina Sofia, Madrid, 2007.
Paula Rego's artwork is represented in several private and public collections such as those from the Arts Council, British Council, British Museum, Coleção Berardo, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, National Gallery, London, Saatchi Gallery, London, Tate Gallery, London, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, amongst others.
